NCSU Project # 201620005

DESCRIPTION:  Proposals for Geotech/Special Inspections/Construction Materials Testing for Plant Sciences

The vision for the new Plant Sciences Building is to create a highly collaborative and interactive environment, where researchers from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and from across the university can build imaginative and far-reaching multidisciplinary partnerships with scientists from government, industry, and regulatory agencies. The goal of these interdisciplinary, research-team partnerships is to find innovative and creative solutions for the grand challenges of agriculture, agribusiness, and plant research, including those regarding food production, sustainability, disease resistance, and climate change.

The building design will promote creativity and collaboration with: open and flexible labs; office clusters that support multi-disciplinary teams; shared, flexible conferencing and seminar spaces; and informal amenity spaces. This five-story building will be 199,000 gross square feet (GSF) comprised of approximately:107,000 GSF of research labs, including an approximately 2,500 ASF core facility with shared equipment for Life Sciences disciplines

  • 43,000 GSF of office space,
  • 18,000 GSF of corporate lab/office suites,
  • 4,000 GSF of hearth/atrium space,
  • 3,000 of support space, and
  • 5,000 GSF of shared, flexible conferencing space.
  • The partial fifth floor will house 19,000 GSF of Biosafety Levels (BSL) 2 and 3 rooftop greenhouses.
