Bragaw Residence Hall is located on NC State’s west campus. The building is named after Henry C. Bragaw, who managed the Orton Plantation near Wilmington, North Carolina during the early 1940’s. There, he developed one of the largest and finest collections of camellias and azaleas in the South.
As a student at NC State, Bragaw earned membership in Golden Chain, managed and edited publications in agriculture and forestry, was chairman of the foresting competition Rolleo, and was vice president of the agricultural fair. Bragaw died in World War II at the Battle of San Pietro in Italy; he won both the Silver and Bronze Stars and two Purple Heart medals.
