Originally known as South Dorm, this residence hall opened in 1916. In 1924, the south wing and center of South Dorm were completed. It was renamed Syme Residence Hall in 1942 to honor George Frederick Syme, a civil engineering graduate of the class of 1898. Syme also served as treasurer of the NC State Memorial Tower Committee.
