Summary: Completed in 1990, Witherspoon Center was intended to replace and expand upon the existing Student and Cultural Center. Witherspoon is home to the African-American Cultural Center, the campus cinema, and several student-run campus publications. It is a key building in the new student services courtyard that includes Harris and Pullen Halls. The Witherspoon Student Center is named after Augustus M. Witherspoon to honor his dedication of mentoring students while serving as an outstanding researcher, professor and community leader. Augustus M. Witherspoon was the first African American professor at NC State and the second African American to receive a PhD from NC State.
